Low to No Cost Gift Ideas

Christmas is a time of fun, joy, and more often than not, STRESS!

Why?

Because finding the perfect gift for the person who has everything, all the while making it meaningful AND affordable can be very anxiety-inducing.

So...

I've got some ideas for you that perhaps will be inventive, fun, and uniquely yours to gift to those you love and care about.

Let's get started.

This idea will cost you $1 for the pack of cards from the Dollar Tree (look for them around the register areas) and some metal rings, or ribbon (which you can also find at the Dollar Tree).

You will also need to get some labels. (These may be found with the office supplies at DT as well.)

Open the pack of cards and your labels.  Trim the labels to size as needed.

Now, write out 52 reasons why you love, like, admire, respect, revere, the person who will receive the cards.

It might even be fun to write 52 childhood memories to give to a sibling.

Or...

Try your hand at writing 52 topical Biblical verses for a faith-based friend, pastor, or family member.

The ideas are endless and will cost you minimal dollars.

Plus thoughtful, homemade gifts such as these are always "ooohed" and "aahed" over.

They will think you're so clever.

Gift someone a game!

With the amount of time we ALL are spending glued to our phones and social media accounts, taking a much-needed break to play a board game, card game, Dominos, or even assemble a puzzle, is time well spent.

It helps our brains to focus and work in a fun way.

It helps our bodies to relax and destress while we're in a fun, competitive mode.

Games and puzzles can be found at the Dollar Tree in the toys sections.  There are some great games to play with younger children there.

Of course, the old favorites and new games are always available and fun to relearn or learn together.

It might be fun in the new year to have a monthly game night with girlfriends or friends.

Have everyone bring an Hors d'oeuvre and you've got dinner and a game!

You know all those photos you've been meaning to go through?

Kill two birds with one stone and frame some great memories to give as gifts.

The Dollar Tree has some very high-end looking frames that compliment your photo choice.

You can even copy those photos at your nearest Wal-Greens, or scan and copy yourself on photo paper.

Old photos of ancestors and family members no longer here are a thoughtful way to share memories with siblings and other family members.

A favorite photo from the past is a great gift to share with a life-long friend.

Look through some of your belongings, things that are collecting dust in a drawer or cupboard, and
"regift" it to someone who will love and cherish it.

The beautiful vase that you never use.

A second set of mixing bowls, never out of the box.

A sweater with the tags still on it.

A vintage piece of jewelry given to a friend can be priceless.

A piece of your grandmother's crystal that you will never use can become a prized possession for daughter, niece, cousin, brother, etc...

Don't get caught up in the monetary value of the piece.  Something of value, never used, has no value whatsoever.

Things are meant to be used and loved!

Find a map of a place that is significant to the receiver and stitch or trace and line along a journey taken, or one to come.

It could be a small map of two states, stitched from one place to another, which signifies a move or the journey between two people.

It could be a country that shows ancestral origins.

It could be a small world map that shows a bucket list travel dream.

You can find great maps to copy and print on the internet.  Make sure you print them on quality cardstock so if you are stitching them you have a paper that will not fall apart from the needle or the handling.

Create an activity gift that a family or group of people could enjoy.

Look for DVDs on sale at large box stores.  Include popcorn to pop and a beverage selection.

You could really make a lot of these types of activity gifts if movies are not the receiver's thing.

Thing along the lines of activities that are of interest to them.

One of the best gifts to give is a gift of your time.

Create "coupons" on the computer or handwrite them.

Give a coupon for a lunch date, a day of shopping, a walk in the park, a trip to the zoo, a day at a museum, a dinner for two.

Focus on the activity or activities that you both enjoy and make that a part of the gift.

If it's a significant other, think of unique and different things you can do:

A picnic on the living room floor watching your favorite movie.

A night out under the stars or walking the beach.

A date night to the first place you met.

At the end of the day, people just want to know you care.

While gifts are great to give and receive, a gift that has thought and effort behind it is much more meaningful.

It's never the cost of the gift.

It's showing how much you know, appreciate, and cherish the person who receives it.

Break those rules and give a gift or two from this list!

Merry Christmas!
