The Eyes Have It!

I was recently in California visiting our daughter.

I had asked her to tell me something that she really wanted (within reason) and she asked for lash extensions.

Being the "girly girl" that I am, I readily agreed and asked if I could blog about it.  Since I was paying for it she graciously agreed.

Get ready for an amazing transformation.

Sydnee did a bit of research and found BlinkBar at their location in Sherman Oaks.  They have 5 locations around the Los Angeles area as well, so I knew it was a reputable place with great service.

It was adorably modern and simple in design, and actually across the street from the organic nail place we had been to the day before for our pedicures.

It was clean and the ladies at the front desk were very professional and happy.

I loved all the little vinyl decals they had throughout the place.

And yes, I "sang" this in my best Vanilla Ice voice when I saw it! (LOL)

While Sydnee checked in I looked around and really appreciated the aesthetic.  Very soft pinks, whites, grays, and metals made it feel spa-like.

Tomomi was her aesthetician, so she introduced herself and walked Sydnee through the process as well as consulted with her on the type of lash placement she preferred.

Syd picked longer lashes out to the side of her eye, with smaller, shorter lashes towards the inside.  This will give a more "cat-like" appearance to her overall eye and give the illusion of her eyes tilting up on the outer edge.

Then it was off to the back, to Tomomi's space to start the process.

The station was clean, well organized, and all the products used were brand new out of the package while the tools were clean and sterilized.

The process starts with a cleaning of the lashes and skin around the eyes.  It's recommended that you have no make-up on so that the application has the best chance of success.

Under the eyes is "wrapped" with a large sticky molded eye pad.  It keeps your lower lashes down and away from the application which ONLY occurs to your top lashline.

Once that is all done, the lashes can start to be applied.

These lashes are applied as individual lashes using a medical grade dark glue.

The application is made in between and next to your original lashes, on your lashline.

Here, you can see Tomomi grabbing on lash from the row of longer lashes.

She alternated between the lengths to give the most natural appearance to the lash line, following the idea that Syd selected of longer lusher lashes towards the outer corner.

Using two sets of long tweezers, Tomomi separated the natural lashes, grabbed an individual lash, inserted the end of it in the glue and placed in exactly where she wanted it.

She placed over 100 individual lashes on each eye, periodically checking the overall effect and making additions where she thought they were needed.

As she finished the right eye, I grabbed a shot of the left eye as a "before" for you to see.

Sydnee's lashes were short and only looked good with mascara and eyeliner strategically applied.

But now...

She doesn't need either.

Here's a great shot of her new lashes taken from above.

They really make her eyes appear more almond-shaped, and I think they look very natural.

Here they are when photographed from straight on.

That's all lashes, not a lick of mascara or eyeliner.

Aren't they amazing?

There were are few directions given when you first get them applied.

She had no problem following these rules (definitely not meant to be broken) and she's not had a single problem with them.

She will go to have them refilled every 3 weeks.  It won't take as long (first application took about 1.5 hours) and they will only fill in where others have fallen off after general wearing and time.

I purchased a lash shampoo and eye make-up remover for her to use as well so that it was a worthwhile investment.

I use Latisse, so my eyelashes are long, though not as full as hers.

I would recommend this process IF you can find a quality spa that specializes in this with a practitioner who is licensed and has MANY applications under his/her belt.

It may not be a rule-breaker, but those lashes could definitely break some hearts!
