I love giving gifts.
It doesn't have to be for a particular reason, but blessing others with your time and efforts is rewarding when gift giving.
I especially love beautifully wrapped gifts.
Not the kind that are hard to "copy," but the kind that even us mere mortals can achieve at a fraction of the cost with readily available materials. In fact, most of my gift-giving wrapping supplies come from The Dollar Tree at pennies on the dollar.
Let's get started.
Head to your nearest Dollar Tree (or dollar type store in your area.)
They have the MOST AMAZING selection of wrapping paper (it's even organized by type as well as color-coded), bows, ribbons, and tags imaginable.
What's especially nice is that the wrapping paper is good quality and you get around 25 square feet of paper. This is great because then you don't have to keep a big roll of paper that you never use in its entirety or which you end up hating the pattern after so many wrappings.
Plus, at $1.00 for the whole roll, you can buy as many different patterns and styles that you'd like.
The ribbon is beyond though. On most tags, you get 2 or even 3 ribbons or bows, sometimes even a combination of both with coordinating ribbon to wrap around your gift. Again, you aren't buying tons of bows of which you will only use 2 in the whole bag! Love that!!!
Tags come in packages of 6 or 8 and often coordinate with the papers as well.
Of course, you can find the colored bags in sets of 2. These are great when you want to decorate the outside of the bags OR want to insert patterned tissue paper. They are also great because they can be non-specific. This helps when you need to wrap a gift unexpectedly and don't have the appropriate "celebratory" event bag available. They are especially useful for "man gift" bags.
My Dollar Tree has a whole side of the gift wrap aisle dedicated to printed bags of ALL SIZES along with crush to go inside the bags or in the bottom of gift baskets. The crush comes in a variety of colors as well. I always have white, black, and kraft shred on hand.
There is always a nice selection of tissue papers available. This gray combo is beautiful and perfect for showers, new babies, weddings, or birthdays. Imagine it in a silver, pale pink, white, or black bag. Using only the white and silver tissue in a royal blue bag and you'd have the perfect combination for my beloved Woodbridge High School Raiders!
I thought this emoji tissue was hysterical. The ideas for using this in a bag or as gift cover inside a box is many.
With 8 sheets inside, combined with a black gift bag (at 2 per purchase) you'd have invested $1.50 in your gift wrap.
Another overlooked item at The Dollar Tree is this Shrink Wrap combo.
Shrink Wrap is expensive at other stores, and this is large enough to use over a nice-sized basket. It even comes with a bow if you don't want to add your own.
But, don't limit yourself to the gift wrap aisle alone. There are some other ideas lurking in other aisles at The Dollar Tree.
This pack of 10 adorable monsters are in the office aisle with the teacher supplies. They would be perfect as gift tags. The backs are white so you can write your message on them. In fact, if you are throwing a child's parts, these would be great for tags on your gift bags to guests, or even strung together to use as a banner.
In that same aisle are these cute puffy dimensional stickers. They could be added to the front of a plain gift bag to "dress" it up. Save one to add to a plain piece of white cardstock and you have a coordinating tag.
These owls would work like that as well. In fact, they have HUNDREDS of sticker packs that could be used in this way. Give the bag and the stickers to a child and let them decorate the gift how they want. It makes them a part of the gift-giving. This is especially great when giving the gift to a friend or family members.
In the child's craft and toy aisle are these trios of baker's twine. Make your own tags or wrap it around the gift. There are many colors to choose from.
Here's what I came home with.
Tissue Paper - the gray combo, a birthday combo, and what I'm calling the "Mermaid scales" combo.
Ribbon - 2 rolls of ribbon in orange and olive green.
Butterflies - these are in the florals aisle and they make great alternatives to bows. They have ties on the back or you can hot glue them as well.
Tassles - there are 9 DIY tassels in here. I will split them up and use one to three on a gift. Super fun and again, an alternative to bows.
Sticker packs - perfect for decorating wrapped or bagged gifts as well as tags.
Shrink Wrap - because I always like to have some on hand.
There are so many amazing finds and options when wrapping gifts that I didn't even cover in this post.
